Surrendering to Divine Love
As faithful Christians we all have read and take for granted a common understanding of the following directives Jesus gave to His Disciples:
➢ “As the Father has loved Me so I have loved you” (John 15:9)
➢ “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12)
And we also think we have a common understanding of the following directives from the Apostles Paul and John:
➢ “If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not [divine] love, I gain nothing.” (1Cor. 13:3)
➢ “Husbands love your wives as Jesus loved his Church and gave Himself for her” (Eph. 5:25)
➢ “ … for the love of God has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit” (Rom 5:5)
➢ “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1Jn. 4:8)
Now if we are honest with ourselves we must also ask ourselves the following questions:
➢ Referring to the first citation, isn’t the Love between the Father and the Son the Holy Spirit Himself ( for after all, God is Love) ? This is a love that ensues from the relationship between the Father anbd The Son. So Isn’t Jesus is saying that His Love for His disciples is that same love, that is, the Holy Spirit?
➢ Referring to the second citation, doesn’t that imply that our love for one another must not only be Holy Spirit inspired but, in fact, the Holy Spirit himself working through our relationships just as the Love between the Father and the Son?
➢ Is my love for others merely my humanly inspired attempt to love others as Jesus loved rather than a surrender of myself to the Holy Spirit so that the Spirit of God can flow from me to others supernaturally through my relationships?
If you have already begun a personal relationship with Jesus and accepted His Love to come into your life you will partially understand the above questions, but you may also see that you hadn’t really comprehended that in order to love others as Jesus loved us we need to release ourselves to the Holy Spirit as well. Because the Lord will not violate our free will, we need to release the Holy Spirit to be the source of our love instead of relying on our own human ability to love. We need His empowerment to express the Divine Love that is waiting to express itself through us.
➢ If the Spirit is speaking to your heart as you read this wouldn’t you like to understand how to let this Divine Love begin flowing though you, by surrendering to a release of the Holy Spirit in you and through you so that we can indeed Love one another with the Father’s Divine Love?
➢ Yes,this is the faith challenge the Word of God is calling us to enter into today.
